Have a sitting job?
Sitting for hours in the office can make it challenging for you to stay fit. Right? This has become our lifestyle to work for hours and stay connected on the go even after our office. But just because you sit in the same spot for nearly about 7 to 8 hours a day doesn’t mean you should compromise with your health. And now you must be thinking that how’s it possible when you have such a tough schedule.

So neither you have to quit your office job nor have you to spend hours in the gym. You heard it right folks! Though it would be great if you could spare some time to exercise in a proper way if it’s not possible, you don’t have to worry. If you’re chained to your desk, there are still opportunities to stay fit. All you need to do is to slightly change your habits at work. And trust the fact that this is extremely imperative because lifestyle diseases are on the rise.

So without wasting your time, here are a few ways to reverse your cubicle woes:

Stretch – Working over a computer system or laptop for long hours can do more damage than you can ever imagine. Apart from leading to eyes strain and stiffed neck, it leads to Cervical Spondylitis and Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. And you can easily avoid such issues by stretching periodically. Make it a habit to stretch your arms, legs, and rotate your neck after every hour.
Walk – Staying in that chair all the day is just inviting a bundle of diseases. So, get up and start moving. All you need to do is take the stairs instead of the lift or elevator. Replace talking over the phone with walking over to the colleague if you need to discuss something. Also, you can walk around the parking lot on your lunch hour. Aim for 6,000 to 10,000 steps a day.

Replace Coffee with Green Tea – You may feel like coffee keeps you active, but it’s not. Try green tea or any herbal tea for a few days and you can tell the difference by yourself. All it requires is a little dedication to unplug the coffee pot and have green tea on regular basis. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that improve brain function and strengthen metabolism.
Active Commute – Having an active commute is one of the easiest ways to stay fit at work. If the conditions allow, try to commute by walking, running, or cycling. Or you can also try getting off the bus a stop earlier and walk around the rest. This will help you indulge in some sort of exercise and set you up for an active day.
Workout – Yes, you can workout at the office and it’s very simple. A simple 5 to 10 minute workout can help you enjoy hundreds of health benefits. All you need to do is 10-minute of walking high knees, shoulder circles, arm circles, squat, reverse lunge reach back, and low side to side lunge. Find any quiet corner and perform a few rounds of these exercises to stay fit.
Workplace Wellness Program – A lot of companies these days encourage their employees to join wellness programs. Find out if your company has such as program and get the membership. If not, encourage your boss to contact local gyms to provide membership discounts for employees. Also, attend wellness seminars to dive deep into the benefits of staying fit.
Stand up, stretch, and move around for a few minutes every day and you will be one step closer to your fitness…
